Fifty-four
years of playing drums is what has driven Art Benson's Dynamic
Percussion to grow into the largest independent drum and percussion
store and teaching facility in Connecticut.
Art's key employees are his wife, Heidi....long time manager Keith
Laudieri and Jay Wood, instructor and sales -- all dedicated professionals and
proficient players that have
been instrumental in the success of Dynamic Percussion. Exclusively a drums and percussion store,
Dynamic Percussion has expanded from an 1,100 square foot facility to 3,600
square feet.
Dynamic Percussion handles all major drum and percussion
lines and also custom makes snare drums and complete drum sets. The
teaching facility employs five experienced, full-time instructors,
catering to beginner and professionals. |
Art Benson, owner of Dynamic Percussion, started playing drums at 10
years of age - in 1953. He played his first professional gig at
age 14 at the Hotel Bond in Hartford, Connecticut with the Tony Obright
Band. After learning from Tony Obright, Art's first drum teacher,
Art went on to take instruction from Ozzie Osgood and drum great Joe
Morello. In the early sixties, Arts first band, The Fabulous
Trebles, toured for four years with the Rock-A-Rama Stage Shows as Gene
Pitney's band. Art has since played with many professional
bands and has had a successful freelance career playing in many Jazz,
Rock and Latin bands. He opened Dynamic Percussion in 1988, during
his ongoing playing career.
During the 15 years prior to opening Dynamic Percussion, Art owned and
operated The Alpine Haus Ski Shop and later opened Tri City Divers Scuba
Shop in Vernon, Connecticut. He maintained an active
playing schedule during this time period.
Art escapes the "Drums" with scuba diving around the world,
listening to bubbles and watching sharks. |
